It has been a while since Manchester United have looked like a dominant side in the Champions League, but under Jose Mourinho they could finally be returning to those heights.

The Red Devils managed a 1-0 victory over Benfica on Wednesday, making it three wins from three games to open up Group A and open up a three-point lead on Basel atop the group.

And it was the first time they achieved that perfect beginning since Sir Alex Ferguson led the club to a three-win start in the Champions League group stage in the 2012-13 season — his final campaign.

In the same match, Benfica's Svilar Breaks Casilas youngest gialkeeoer record as become the youngest ever goalkeeper to start a Champions League game, overtaking former Real Madrid stopper Iker Casillas' record.

The 18-year-old was named in Luis Filipe Vieira's starting XI for Benfica's home tie against Jose Mourinho's Manchester Untied on Tuesday evening at Estadio da Luz.

Svilar becomes the youngest ever goalkeeper to start in the prestigious competition aged 18 years and 52 days.

Casillas made his debut in the competition for Real against Olympiakos in 1999, aged 18 years and 117 days, a record which has stood since yesterday's evening.

Nikolay Mihaylov of Levski Sofia is next in line, aged 18 years and 124 days, with CSKA's Igor Akinfeev fourth in the rankings for his outing against Porto aged 18 years and 159 days.

Manchester City vs Napoli Champions league match highlight

Manchester City vs Napoli Champions league match highlight

Pep Guardiola's free-scoring Manchester City took a huge step towards the Champions League knockout stages as they edged to a thrilling 2-1 win over Group F rivals Napoli.

City have cruised to the top of the Premier League - netting 29 goals in eight league games this term - and any claims that Serie A's own in-form leaders could halt the hosts' fine run looked to have been put to bed inside the opening quarter of an hour at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola had predicted a "fascinating" contest and that it was, but poor Napoli initially had no answer to City's rampant attacking play as Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus scored early on.

Maurizio Sarri ignored his president's calls to rest key men for this match - with second-placed Inter visiting the San Paolo this weekend - but Dries Mertens' first notable contribution was to see a penalty saved.

However, as City stepped off the gas after the break, Napoli hit their stride and a second spot-kick - from Amadou Diawara - was converted to set up a dramatic finish.

The visitors could not then force an equaliser.

Tottenham held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in an enthralling encounter between the top two of Champions League Group H.

Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Raphael Varane's own goal in the first half in the Spanish capital, but the holders could not find a way past the inspired Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris in their pursuit of a second.

Both these teams had won their opening two group games and suitably delivered a match of high quality on Tuesday, in which both goalkeepers were forced into some stunning saves to keep the scores level.

It was Spurs who struck first, with Varane inadvertently turning Serge Aurier's cross into his own net, before Ronaldo drew Madrid level with his fifth Champions League goal of the season.

Madrid enjoyed more possession and the better of the chances but Lloris was in inspired form, producing athletic stops to deny Karim Benzema and Ronaldo and earn his side a share of the spoils, while it required a brilliant save from Keylor Navas to prevent Harry Kane snatching the win for Tottenham.

Nigeria Vs Zambia highlight Super Eagles Become 1st African Side to Book 2018 World Cup Spot

Nigeria Vs Zambia highlight Super Eagles Become 1st African Side to Book 2018 World Cup Spot

Alex Iwob's 73rd-minute goal was enough to help the Super Eagles book their qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after beating Zambia 1-0 on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The encounter didn't begin the way Nigeria wanted, making faulty passes and allowing the Chipolopolo control the midfield with ease ended the first half with little of nothing to cheer about.

However, the introduction of Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi in the second half changed the complexion of the game as he pushed the Super Eagles attack more forward and eventually made his presence count with a cool finish to break the deadlock.

The victory means, the team have qualified for Russia with a game to spare against the Desert Foxes of Algeria later in November.

England vs Slovenia World Cup Qualifying Match Highlights

England vs Slovenia World Cup Qualifying Match Highlights

Harry Kane's injury-time goal guaranteed England's place at the 2018 World Cup, the Tottenham striker earning a 1-0 home win against Slovenia on Thursday.

Gareth Southgate's side were already virtually assured of their place in Russia due to a five-point cushion and made certain of their progress thanks to Kane's late impact.

The in-form striker had been quiet throughout a listless Three Lions performance but nudged home Kyle Walker's low cross to break the deadlock in the third minute of added time.

In a largely turgid affair, England missed the suspended Dele Alli and the injured Jamie Vardy's ability to move defenders around, with Slovenia happy to sit deep and soak up pressure.

Slovenia held England to a 0-0 draw at home earlier in the group and they appeared set to do so again with few problems, Jan Oblak making relatively straightforward saves from Kane, Jordan Henderson and the lively Marcus Rashford.

But there was nothing Oblak could do about Kane's late winner, the cross from former Spurs team-mate Walker perfect for him to tap in his 14th goal of the season for club and country.
