Chile 1 Australia 1: Substitute Rodriguez seals Portugal semi-final, See Highlights

Chile 1 Australia 1: Substitute Rodriguez seals Portugal semi-final, See Highlights

Chile substitute Martin Rodriguez scored his first international goal to salvage a 1-1 Confederations Cup draw with Australia that seals a mouth-watering semi-final tie against Portugal.

James Troisi scored his first Australia goal for over two years to give the Socceroos – who needed a two-goal victory to move above their opponents in Group B – a surprise half-time lead.

But Rodriguez, who was introduced at half time, levelled to calm Chile's nerves about elimination and ensure they finish second to pool winners Germany, who beat Cameroon 3-1 in Sunday's other game.

Chile came into the match in Moscow sitting top of the group, a position that would have seen them face Mexico, but instead they will meet Cristiano Ronaldo and the European champions in the last four.

Germany 3 Cameroon 1: World champions top Confederations Cup group

Kerem Demirbay marked his full international debut with a brilliant goal and Timo Werner hit a brace as Germany booked their place in the Confederations Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 win against 10-man Cameroon on Sunday.

Chile's 1-1 draw against Australia means Germany top Group B and the world champions will now face Mexico in Sochi in the semis on Thursday, avoiding Euro 2016 winners Portugal.

Following a tepid first half Germany opened the scoring with a moment of magic shortly after the interval, Demirbay completing a finely crafted one-two with Julian Draxler by blasting home.

After a VAR review saw Ernest Mabouka eventually sent off for a high tackle on Emre Can after Sebastien Siani was initially mistakenly dismissed, Germany quickly extended their lead through Werner's first international goal.

Joshua Kimmich's right-wing cross bounced before it reached the RB Leipzig striker, but Werner dived to divert a header neatly beyond Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa.

Vincent Aboubakar halved the deficit but Werner soon slotted in his second of the game and victory means Germany coach Joachim Low has now won 100 of his 150 matches in charge, with his team unbeaten in their last 13 outings.

New Zealand 0-4 Portugal 2017 Confederations Cup

New Zealand 0-4 Portugal 2017 Confederations Cup

Portugal beat New Zealand 3-0 in Saint Petersburg and results elsewhere went their way to ensure that they finished top of their group heading into the semi-final of the Confederations Cup.

Cristiano gave Portugal the lead just past the hour mark. Danilo was tripped up as Quaresma delivered another lethal cross from a corner. Ronaldo stepped up and sent Marinovic the wrong way to give Portugal the lead after 33 minutes.

That lead was doubled when Quaresma, again, set Eliseu free down the left with a lovely scooped pass that the left-back gathers and brought into the penalty area. He squared for Bernardo Silva, who turned his ankle but not before he could poke home from close range.

Andre Silva made it 3-0 when he finished a slick couneter-attack by the reigning European Champions. He took it out to the right before driving past Marinovic, who was proving a difficult man to beat in New Zealand's goal.

Nani made it 4-0 with time running out as he took the ball just inside the penalty area and drove a left-footed shot beyond Marinovic but at that stage the result was beyond doubt.

Mexico 2 Russia 1: Akinfeev error sends hosts crashing out

Igor Akinfeev's mistake proved costly as Mexico came from behind to beat 10-man Russia 2-1 to book a place in the Confederations Cup semi-finals and send the hosts crashing out.

Russia had seen two penalty appeals rejected before taking the lead after 25 minutes, Alexander Samedov finishing well from inside the box after Aleksandr Erokhin teed him up following a miskick.

The lead was short-lived, however, with Mexico swiftly equalising through a Nestor Araujo header, the centre-back directing a header past Russia's goalkeeper Akinfeev, although he did not seem to be going for goal.

And Mexico went on to take the lead in even more bizarre circumstances early in the second half, with Akinfeev completely misjudging a long ball and presenting Hirving Lozano with a simple headed finish.

The Video Assistant Review (VAR) system denied Mexico a third when Hector Moreno was correctly ruled to be offside but, after Yuri Zhirkov was dismissed, El Tri held on to stay in the tournament and knock Russia out.

Consortium of banks led by Access Bank Plc and other Nigerian and foreign banks takes over Etisala

Consortium of banks led by Access Bank Plc and other Nigerian and foreign banks takes over Etisala

Etisalat United Arab Emirate (otherwise called Etisalat Group), the parent company of Etisalat Nigeria, on Tuesday, notified the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange that it has pulled out of Nigeria.

Recall that earlier on Tuesday, a consortium of banks led by Access Bank Plc and other Nigerian and foreign banks, announced that they had taken over the management of Etisalat Nigeria, putting a final seal on the protracted negotiations between the firm and its creditors.

In the notification letter, Etisalat UAE informed the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange of its decision to transfer its shares in Etisalat Nigeria to the appointed security trustee of the consortium of banks led by Access Bank Plc.

Confirming the decision of Etisalat UAE to divest its shares, Chief Executive officer of Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Matthew Willsher, in a press statement made available to The Daily Times said: “Our renegotiation with the banks are not yet over, but our shareholding structure is evolving.

Recently, Etisalat UAE notified the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange of the forthcoming transfer of their shares to the appointed security trustee of the banks. The exact nature and timing of the transfer is still under discussion, but we expect the final transfer to be done in a coordinated manner”.

“Discussions are also ongoing to address the different management, technical and IP-related implications of the move, including continued use of the Etisalat brand name to trade in Nigeria.

“This was always one of many possible outcomes. The business will of course continue to operate, because any planned exit will be carried out in coordination with the banks, regulators and shareholders.

“Our immediate priority though is to ensure that there is no disruptions to day-to-day operations of the business. In spite of the changes that lie ahead, we aim to maintain continuity through our focus, capabilities, and values.

“So, we will continue to focus on the customer. Our commitment to delivering results through innovation, operational excellence and quality of service will endure. And we will also be guided by our core value of passion for excellence, integrity, One Term- One Mission, Growing our people and Empowering our people.
“The business outlook remains challenging, but our re-negotiations so far allow us to refocus our energies on the financial, operational and strategic priorities that will help".

However, the Federal Government on Tuesday waded into the controversy surrounding the takeover of Etisalat Nigeria, by a consortium of banks, led by Access Bank.

The Federal Government, in an unequivocal statement, declared that lender banks cannot take over Etisalat Nigeria, the number four mobile phone provider in the country, without regulatory approval.

The government, through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the telecommunications industry regulator, said that they have a few regulatory hurdles to cross.
Although NCC did not explain what the regulatory hurdles were, the consortium, led by Access Bank, and some foreign banks had insisted that they have taken over the management of the telecom’s provider.

Tony Ojobo, Director, Public Affairs, NCC, said on Tuesday that the lender banks must take note of relevant provisions of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act (NCA) 2003, as well as, the relevant provisions of the laws guiding the transfer of licences issued operators by the telecoms regulator.

Ojobo drew the attention of the lender banks to Section 38 and Sub section 1 of the NCA, which spells out that, “The grant of a licence shall be personal to the licensee, and the licence shall not be operated by, assigned, sub-licensed or transferred to another party unless the prior written approval of the commission has been granted.”

According to the Nigerian telecoms’ regulator, Sub Section 2 of the same provision equally states that, “A licencee shall, at all times, comply by the terms and condition of the licence and the provision of this act and its subsidiary legislation.
“The NCC wishes to assure the over 21 million Etisalat subscribers that it will do all within its regulatory power to ensure that Etisalat subscribers continue to enjoy the services provided by the operator,” the Commission said.
According to Ojobo, “the Commission has taken proactive steps to cushion the impact of the takeover”, adding, “This is without prejudice to the ongoing effort between Etisalat and the banks towards negotiated settlement.”

Although the NCC spokesman did not give further details of the measures that have been taken to cushion the impact on Etisalat Nigeria subscribers, but he gave a ray of assurance.
“Whilst the banks and Etisalat are working at resolving the issues, the Commission wishes to assure subscribers that they will continue to enjoy the services provided by Etisalat,” Ojobo added.

According to him, “In view of the development, NCC wishes to reassure all stakeholders in the telecommunications sector, in particular, the subscribers on the Etisalat Network, that the Commission will ensure that the integrity of Etisalat Network is not compromised.”

Earlier on Tuesday, a consortium of banks, led Access Bank Plc and other Nigerian and foreign banks, announced that they have taken over the management of Etisalat Nigeria, one of the telecommunications providers in the country, putting a final seal on the protracted negotiations between the firm and its creditors, which has, since June 15, led Etisalat to relinquish its ownership and control over the company.

Consequently, following the collapse of talks to reach agreement with the banks on debt restructuring plan in the protracted $1.72 billion (about N541.8 billion) debt impasse, the firm’s creditors ran out of patience and resolved to take possession of the company

Salah replaces Liverpool's Firmino as No 11

New Liverpool signing Mohamed Salah will take over the No. 11 shirt from Roberto Firmino, with the Brazilian becoming the club’s No. 9.

The Egypt international completed his switch from Roma to Anfield after passing a medical on Thursday and committing to a five-year deal.

Having been successful for the Giallorossi as their 11, Salah wanted to keep the number for Liverpool with the Brazilian happy to oblige.

Oussama Assaidi, Maxi Rodriguez, Albert Riera, Yossi Benayoun and Mark Gonzalez were the previous five players to hold the shirt.

The last forward to have success as Liverpool’s No. 9, meanwhile, was Fernando Torres.

Cameroon vs Australia Confederation Cup Match highlight

Australia kept their Confederations Cup hopes alive with the benefit of another controversial decision by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as they drew 1-1 with Cameroon.

There looked set to be little for either side to shout about in the opening 45 minutes, but Cameroon took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Vincent Aboubakar, linked with Premier League club Newcastle United, wasted a number of chances to make it 2-0 and the Indomitable Lions were eventually made to pay when Mark Milligan levelled from the spot after a hugely debatable decision.

Referee Milorad Mazic initially awarded a penalty and the VAR backed up his assessment despite replays indicating Ernest Mabouka did not foul Alex Gersbach and had instead won the ball.

A decisive goal was not forthcoming for either side, meaning both teams can still progress having claimed one point from two Group B games, although Germany and Chile – who play later on Thursday – remain favourites to do so.

Lars Stindl's equaliser ensured Germany made Chile and record-breaker Alexis Sanchez wait for a place in the Confederations Cup semi-finals with a 1-1 draw in Kazan.

Sanchez became Chile's all-time record scorer early on, passing Marcelo Salas with his 38th international goal after a mistake from Arsenal team-mate Shkodran Mustafi.

Eduardo Vargas hit the crossbar for Juan Antonio Pizzi's men, but Stindl struck for the second consecutive game before half-time.

A quieter second half did not produce a winning goal, meaning Chile and Germany stay level on four points at the top of Group B, three clear of Australia and Cameroon, who also drew 1-1 earlier on Thursday.

Liverpool have announced the signing of left-footed Egyptian winger Mohammad Salah for a fee of £34 million plus add-ons.

Salah had a prolific 2016-17 season with Italian club Roma, helping himself to 15 goals & 11 assists. He plays predominantly on the right as an inverted winger and is expected to complement Sadio Mane, the other rapid wide-man in Red ranks. Alongside the Sengalese international, the Merseyside club now have the two most expensive African players in Europe.

Salah previously had a short stint in the Premier League in Chelsea colours after moving from Basel. He was then loaned to Fiorentina & Roma before the capital club exercised their purchase option.

He has signed a 5-year deal with Jurgen Klopp's team and becomes the club's 2nd signing of the summer after youth striker Dominic Solanke moved from Chelsea.

Portugal went top of Group A at the Confederations Cup following a 1-0 win over Russia on Wednesday, Cristiano Ronaldo making the difference for the European champions.

The Real Madrid star found the net after just eight minutes, beating goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev with a strong header from close range, and Stanislav Cherchesov's side were unable to find a response.

It was all Portugal in Moscow, though, and Ronaldo eventually led his side to victory amid a tumultuous personal period off the pitch. The 32-year-old has been linked with a move away from Madrid following scrutiny over his tax affairs in Spain.

Mexico 2 New Zealand 1: Peralta completes dramatic comeback

Oribe Peralta scored a dramatic winner as Mexico came from behind to defeat New Zealand 2-1 in Sochi and move top of Confederations Cup Group A.

After Juan Carlos Osorio made eight changes to Mexico's team, it looked like he would pay the price when Chris Wood gave New Zealand a shock first-half lead, the first time his country have scored in six Confederations Cup matches.

But Raul Jimenez's third goal in his last four internationals brought Osorio's men back on level terms after the break and Peralta's winner ensured El Tri secured victory despite star striker Javier Hernandez remaining on the substitutes' bench.

Mexico, winners of the tournament in 1999, now know a point in their final match against Russia – who lost to Portugal earlier on Wednesday – will ensure they reach the semi-finals.

Ronaldo dodges press conference amid Madrid exit rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to answer questions from the press at the Confederations Cup amid reports he wants to leave Real Madrid.

The Portugal captain was named Man of the Match as his side drew 2-2 with Mexico, meaning he is obliged to speak at the post-match press conference.

But reports have surfaced that he is "undergoing treatment", and as such will not be taking any questions either regarding the game or his future.

Doubts over Ronaldo’s future emerged earlier in the week following accusations that the Madrid forward had concealed earnings and defrauded the Spanish tax authorities out of €14.7 million.

Prosecutors in Madrid had filed a complaint to a court in Pozuelo de Alarcon that accused the four-time Ballon d'Or winner of a "voluntary" and "conscious" breach of his tax obligations.

Gboard Tricks and Some Hidden Features

Gboard Tricks and Some Hidden Features

Gboard which is Google's own keyboard app is arguably one of the best keyboard for both android and iOS users. Even with its simplicity, the app comes with lots of amazing features that many users might not even know about.

Even if you have been using Gboard for a long time, there is a great chance you are not even aware of most of the amazing features that comes with this app. In t his post, I will just highlight a few of them.

One-Handed Mode
You might find large screens really cool when watching movies or playing games but it's really frustrating when you are trying to type on it with just one hand. Gboard has one cool feature known as one handed mode which lets you move the keys to either the left or right hand side for easy access. To use this, Press and hold the Enter key and slide to the icon of a hand holding a device. The keyboard will zoom to the right side of the device, to zoom to the left, just tap on the Arrow icon on the left side of the keyboard.
To return to the normal mode, just tap on the Full Screen icon.

Sync Learned Words
Gboard and a few other keyboard apps have the ability to learn your most used words and with that, gets better at predicting what you want to type even before you do so. But the learning process starts from scratch when you get a new phone.

Gboard can actually sync your learned words across devices so you don't have to start over again. To enable it, Tap on the Google icon > Settings > Dictionary, then slide on the Sync learned words option, then tap OK. Then you choose the Google account you want to sync your devices.

Google Search
Am sure most of us have been in a situation where we are not so sure of the spelling or meaning of a particular word and we have to minimise what we are doing to look it up on Google or an offline dictionary.

Now, Google recently added a built in Google search to it's keyboard app. To use it, all you need to do is to click on the Google logo at the top left corner of the keyboard and type what you want to search for. After that, just click on the search icon on your keyboard.

Permanent Number Row
With this, there is actually no need switching between the alphabet and numeral keyboards or holding down aletter to input a number. You can just easily add the number row permanently to the top of the alphabets on the keyboard. Just open your Gboard settings > preferences then enable the "number Row" option.

Gboard Translate
With the Gboard Translate, the keyboard can translate any word or sentence you type in and even read it out in real time. Using this is pretty easy, just click on the Google logo, tap on the first icon with the letter G written on it, paste the words you want to translate into the box and select your language from the drop down menu.

Quick Emojis Access
All apps have different ways of accessing the Emojis but with Gboard, you can easily access the Emojis irrespective of the app you are on by just holding down the enter key or comma (,) and sliding to the similey icon.

Permanent Emoji Row
This is similar to the permanent number row only that it's only shows in emoji keyboard mode. Once you turn it on, your list of recently used Emoji will always appear at the top once you switch to the emoji keyboard.

To enable it, click on the Google icon > Settings > Preferences and enable the show Emojis in Symbols Keyboard option.

Search for Emoji
You can quickly search for emojis even while you are inthe normal keyboard mode. Just hold down the enter key and type the first letter of the emoji you are looking for. Gboard with immediately switch to similey with related search results.
