Forbes' World's Highest-Paid💰 Actresses 2017

Forbes' World's Highest-Paid💰 Actresses 2017

La La Land--the city and its celluloid namesake--has been very kind to Emma Stone. At just 28 years old, the Hollywood star is this year's highest-paid actress, banking $26 million pretax in Forbes' 12 month scoring period.

Stone has her earnings from the movie-musical to thank for the bulk of her payday, which also won her a Best Actress Oscar. Her portrayal of Mia, an aspiring actress and barista, garnered rave reviews and goosed the film to $445.3 million at the global box office.

She bests Jennifer Aniston (No. 2; $25.5 million) who continues to bank millions more than a decade after Friends' conclusion, thanks to regular roles in movies such as The Yellow Birds. But Aniston, 48, makes most of her money by endorsing the likes of Emirates airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno.

Former top-ranked Jennifer Lawrence comes in at No. 3, notching just over half her 2016 total. But don’t worry—she still made $24 million. Without a Hunger Games movie, most of Lawrence's paychecks came from forthcoming Darren Aronofsky thriller Mother!, Red Sparrow and a longstanding Dior endorsement.

Melissa McCarthy (No. 4; $18 million) and Mila Kunis (No. 5; $15.5 million) round out the top five.

Earnings estimates are based on data from Nielsen, ComScore, Box Office Mojo and IMDB, as well as interviews with industry insiders. All figures are pretax; fees for agents, managers and lawyers are not deducted. The list examined actresses the world over, but no stars from Asia made the cut, as Fan Bingbing and Deepika Padukone dropped off due to quieter years.

Check out the full list:

1. Emma Stone ($26 million)

2. Jennifer Aniston ($25.5 million)

3. Jennifer Lawrence ($24 million)

4. Melissa McCarthy ($18 million)

5. Mila Kunis ($15.5 million)

6. Emma Watson ($14 million)

6. Charlize Theron ($14 million)

7. Cate Blanchett ($12 million)

8. Julia Roberts ($12 million)

9. Amy Adams ($11.5 million)

Knee injury rules Luis Suarez out for one month

Knee injury rules Luis Suarez out for one month

Luis Suarez will be sidelined for up to five weeks after suffering a right knee injury in Barcelona's Spanish Super Cup loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Barcelona and the Uruguayan Football Association announced the news on Thursday, confirming the striker will be sidelined for the start of the Liga campaign as well as upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Paraguay.

Suarez appeared to suffer the injury in the 85th minute of Barca's 2-0 loss to Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, with Los Blancos triumphing 5-1 on aggregate. The 30-year-old managed to continue playing and finish the match despite the injury.

The news comes at a particularly unwelcome time for Barca, who open their Liga campaign against Real Betis on Sunday.

The Catalans already are shorthanded in the attack following the world-record sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, and midfielder Andres Iniesta sat out Wednesday's Super Cup second leg with a thigh problem.

Man City open Johnny Evans talks

Man City open Johnny Evans talks

Manchester City are working on a deal to sign Jonny Evans from West Brom, as per reports.

The reports state that City agreed personal terms with Evans last week, and the Blues are now trying to broker a deal with West Brom.

It has been reported that the Baggies have already rejected two bids from City, one worth £18 million, though the Blues remain confident they will reach a breakthrough before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

Pep Guardiola has been in the market for an experienced, strong defender all summer, but has seen attempts to sign Virgil van Dijk and Leonardo Bonucci hit the buffers.

Van Dijk has handed in a transfer request at Southampton but City insist they will not go back in for the Dutchman, such is the Saints' lofty asking price of around £60m.

That has opened the door to a move for Evans, who joined West Brom from Manchester United for £8m in 2015 and could fetch around £20m.

Arsenal defender Gabriel set to seal €11m Valencia move

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista will join Valencia after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £10 million (€11m).The Brazilian defender has found himself behind the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium after arriving from Villarreal for £11.3m in 2015.

Gabriel, who started just 15 Premier League games last season, was the first Arsenal player spotted and signed from the database of club-owned football data analytics company StatDNA, which earmarked the centre back as one of La Liga's most impressive statistical performers two seasons ago.

However, the 26-year-old has found game time and consistency difficult to come by with Wenger admitting when the player first arrived two years ago that Gabriel's biggest disadvantage was that he didn't speak English.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is hoping to sell several fringe players before the transfer window closes in less than a fortnight's time, with the club open to offers for Kieran Gibbs, Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy.
Everton sign Swansea star Sigurdsson for club-record £45m fee

Everton sign Swansea star Sigurdsson for club-record £45m fee

Everton have completed the signing of Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson for a reported club-record fee of £45 million.

The Iceland international, 27, has inked a five-year deal at the Toffees, putting to bed a drawn-out process between the two clubs.

Sigurdsson had been on Everton's radar for over a year and the Merseysiders reportedly had two bids previously knocked back by Swansea.

However, Everton have now finally secured their man — increasing their summer spending to well over £100m after also signing the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Wayne Rooney this summer.

Sigurdsson — who scored nine goals and registered 13 assists in the Premier League last season — missed a large chunk of Swansea's pre-season due to the ongoing speculation surrounding him.

Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema scored brilliant first-half goals as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 on the night to register a resounding 5-1 aggregate Supercopa win, despite not fielding Isco and Bale.

Zinedine Zidane's side, comfortable 3-1 first-leg winners on Sunday, put Cristiano Ronaldo's five-game ban behind them by out-playing their arch-rivals again as moments of magic from Asensio and Benzema put them out of sight.

Asensio's superb, swerving early strike set the tone at the Bernabeu and Benzema added a second six minutes before half-time to leave a dispirited Barca staring at a heavy defeat.

Tony Scholes, Stoke’s chief executive, told the club’s website: “Jesé was a man in demand when PSG made it clear they would allow him to leave on loan and we’re delighted he has chosen to join us. He hasn’t had the happiest of periods in his career in Paris but he’s still only a young man and is hungry to make a big impression in the Premier League.”

Carlos Bacca leaves AC Milan to join Villarreal on season-long loan

Villarreal have confirmed the signing of Carlos Bacca from AC Milan on loan for the season with a view to a permanent move.

El Pais and AS report that the option, not an obligation, to sign the player next summer is for €15.5 million, with the initial loan costing the La Liga outfit €2.5m.

Bacca's agent, Sergio Barila, said, "Bacca is in a situation where both he and his club are interested in looking at an option where he can play, be in a good league and La Liga is a very good offer."

The 30-year-old scored 34 goals in 77 games in all competitions for AC Milan, who signed him for €30m two years ago from Sevilla. Milan coach Vincenzo Montella was open to Bacca's departure as he does not consider him a key player.

Chelsea Replies Costa demands striker Diego Costa returns to club and gets match fit

Chelsea Replies Costa demands striker Diego Costa returns to club and gets match fit

Chelsea have responded firmly to Diego Costa claims of maltreatment, demanding the striker return to training and get himself fit for first-team selection.

The Premier League champions have been forced to respond after Costa gave an interview from his home in Brazil where he claimed that Chelsea had treated him “like a criminal” over his desire to leave the club this summer.

It is understood Chelsea have made four demands of the player if he is to restore relations that have been badly soured even before this weekend’s interview.

The first is straightforward, that he should return to the club. The second is that he should report for training, the third that he get match fit and the fourth, and most surprising, that he put himself into contention for first-team selection.

The 28-year-old has been in dispute with Chelsea’s coach, Antonio Conte, since the turn of the year when the Brazilian-born Spain international was upbraided for a row with the fitness coach Julio Tous. After a disappointing second half to last season, Conte told the player he was surplus to requirements by text message, the contents of which Costa then made public.

OFFICIAL💥: Barcelona🔷 Complete Paulinho Capture✍

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of midfielder Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande for €40 million.

The Brazil international, 29, will finalise his move to the La Liga giants upon completing a medical and agreeing terms on a reported four-year deal on Thursday.

Paulinho, who will have a buyout clause of €120m, will be Ernesto Valverde's first signing since the world-record €222m sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.

It comes after weeks of speculation over his future and marks an impressive revival in Paulinho's career.

Having struggled to convince at Tottenham following a move from Corinthians in 2013, he left to join Guangzhou two years later to link up with former Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari.

The player will be unveiled on Thursday, the day after the second leg of the Spanish Supercopa which Barca trail 3-1 to Real Madrid after Sunday night's defeat at Camp Nou.

RONALDO COULD FACE LENGTHY BAN FOR SLIGHT PUSH ON REFEREE

RONALDO COULD FACE LENGTHY BAN FOR SLIGHT PUSH ON REFEREE

Cristiano Ronaldo could be suspended for as many as 12 matches after referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea included the Real Madrid star's shove in his match report.

After scoring and removing his shirt to earn a yellow card in the Spanish Super Cup first leg against Barcelona, Ronaldo was shown a second yellow card for an alleged dive in the box just minutes later, prompting him to momentarily lose his cool and shove the referee.

Bengoetxea included the altercation in his post-game match report, writing: "Player: Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro. Once the red card was shown, the player pushed me slightly in a sign of disagreement."

The shove could trigger a ban of up to 12 matches under Article 96 of the Spanish federation's rule book, which deals with "Slight violence towards referees".

Article 96 applies to players who "grab, push or shake" a referee in a manner that is "slightly violent", and recommends a suspension of 4-12 matches for the action.

GUINGAMP 0 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 3: NEYMAR SCORES AND ASSISTS CAVANI ON DEBUT AFTER BIZARRE IKOKO OWN GOAL

Neymar celebrated his Paris Saint-Germain debut in style with a goal and an assist for Edinson Cavani in a 3-0 win over Guingamp.

The Brazil star took his place on the left-hand side of a front three alongside Cavani and Angel Di Maria and looked lively throughout against opponents who were happy to sit deep and defend in numbers until PSG found a breakthrough thanks to Jordan Ikoko's bizarre own goal.

Right-back Ikoko, a PSG academy graduate, hit a mis-directed pass back towards goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson and it was too strong and crept in via the upright.

Not to be upstaged, Neymar had a more direct influence on PSG's second as his delightful throughball released Cavani to coolly beat Johnsson.

And the most expensive footballer on the planet was not done there as he tapped home into an empty net with eight minutes remaining following good work from Cavani.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning winner before being sent off for a dive in Real Madrid's Supercopa de Espana first-leg triumph over Barcelona.

The Portugal star came off the bench to blast home the third goal of the visitors' 3-1 win at Camp Nou but earned a second yellow card for going to ground in the penalty area two minutes later, having earlier been booked for taking his shirt off in celebration.

Zinedine Zidane's side took the lead early in the second half through an own goal from Gerard Pique but Barca levelled thanks to Lionel Messi's penalty, which was won in controversial fashion by Luis Suarez.

Ronaldo put Madrid back ahead with a spectacular strike but was dismissed within two minutes of that goal and risked further punishment when he pushed the referee in the back before departing the field.

Barca pushed for a second equaliser late on but were undone by Marco Asensio's brilliant strike on the break, meaning they have it all to do at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday in the first Supercopa tie between these sides since 2012.

MANCHESTER UNITED 4 WEST HAM 0: LUKAKU DELIVERS ON OLD TRAFFORD DEBUT

Romelu Lukaku starred on his competitive Old Trafford debut, scoring twice as Manchester United began the 2017-18 campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over West Ham to lead the early Premier League table.

Lukaku had netted in his first league appearances for both West Brom and Everton and he repeated that feat on Sunday, getting on the end of a Marcus Rashford pass to give the hosts a deserved lead in the 33rd minute.

Nemanja Matic also began to swiftly justify the fee paid by United to reunite the Serbian with his former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, impressing throughout at the base of midfield and completing a timely interception to trigger the counter-attack that ended in Lukaku's first goal.

The Belgian centre-forward doubled his tally eight minutes into the second half, when he headed home a Henrikh Mkhitaryan free-kick.

Substitute Anthony Martial and midfielder Pogba added gloss to the scoreline by scoring late on, leaving Mourinho and the home faithful cheered by the sight of a dominant display to open the campaign as they seek to challenge for a first league title since 2012-13.

Jonjo Shelvey's moment of petulance was punished by Dele Alli and Ben Davies as Tottenham opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over 10-man Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Newcastle kept Tottenham, who finished runners-up last term, at arm's length during a lacklustre first half, but Shelvey trod on Alli's ankle three minutes into the second period and was shown a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner.

Rafael Benitez's side, who had already lost Paul Dummett and debutant Florian Lejeune to injury, were unable to contain Spurs thereafter, with Alli making the breakthrough when he stretched to volley Christian Eriksen's exquisite delivery into the back of the net.

Davies added Tottenham's second with 20 minutes remaining, finishing a slick move with a composed finish beyond Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot, Eriksen again the provider.

Harry Kane, last season's Golden Boot winner, could have added more gloss but struck the post late on and his wait for a Premier League goal in August continues.

Usain Bolt's career ends in injury

Usain Bolt's unparalleled career ended in extraordinary drama on Saturday as he pulled up with injury on the anchor leg of his very last race, the 4x100 metres relay final at the World Championships.

The 30-year-old had taken the baton for Jamaica a few metres adrift of the two leaders when, straining hard to catch them, he stopped abruptly with cramp in his left hamstring, began hobbling and tumbled to a halt after a forward roll.

As Britain went on to win gold, Bolt lay on his back in his lane, his head in hands, being tended to by medics as one waited with a wheelchair to help push him off the track.

The fastest man of all-time, surrounded by his three worried team mates, Omar McLeod, Julian Forte and Yohan Blake, rose gingerly to his feet and limped the last 30 metres to the line.

Nine-man Chelsea fell to a shock 3-2 home defeat against Burnley as their Premier League title defence began with a stunning upset.

Captain Gary Cahill was sent off after just 14 minutes for a challenge on Steven Defour, but that was just the start of the astonishing drama at Stamford Bridge.

Sam Vokes starred for Burnley with two of his side's three goals before half-time, Stephen Ward also netting in between the Wales striker's double.

Antonio Conte gave Alvaro Morata 31 minutes from the substitutes' bench on his Premier League debut and he scored with a header.

Any hopes of a recovery were dented when Cesc Fabregas was sent off after collecting a second booking late on, although David Luiz did set up a grandstand finish with a powerful volley to make it 3-2 with two minutes left. Robbie Brady then hit the post at the opposite end from a free-kick as Burnley pushed for a fourth.

The unexpected result is Chelsea's first opening-day defeat for 19 years and only the second time the Premier League's defending champions have lost their first game in 26 years.
